A Sydney man, in his 80s, has become the first Australian to undergo cryogenic freezing after his death, with hopes of being revived in the future. Southern Cryonics, an Australian company, successfully froze its first client at a cost of $105,000.
After his passing, the body was moved from the hospital to a funeral home, packed in ice, and stabilized over 10 hours using special procedures. It was then wrapped in a sleeping bag that stays intact in liquid nitrogen and cooled to minus 200°C.
While scientists have been able to regenerate lab-grown cells, reviving a human remains a future possibility.
