Top Traffic-Generating Countries for Major Websites: Which Nations Dominate the Online Landscape?
As the long awaited 8 billion world population mark expected to be
surpassed in October of this year, the traffic on the internet is
predicted to see a veritable explosion. In spite of the fact that this
is the case, different countries will provide their own proportional
share of the traffic which often won’t be relative to their resident
populations.
With all of that having been said and now out of the
way, it is important to note that women are disproportionately
represented in this regard. Women account for 49.7% of the global
population, yet they only make up around 42% of all internet traffic.
This 16% gap goes to show that there is a massive gender disparity
online, and a similar gap can be seen in terms of national traffic as
well.
The US has a 4.25% share of the global population, but
17.42% of all internet traffic comes from this nation with all things
having been considered and taken into account. 97% of the US population
has internet access which is useful because of the fact that this is the
sort of thing that could potentially end up generating much more
traffic for the top 100 websites.
Coming in second is Japan with a
5.91% share of worldwide internet traffic, despite only possessing
1.54% of the world’s population.
Meanwhile in India, where 17.7%
of the world resides, another enormous gap can be seen since only 5.75%
of internet traffic comes from this South Asian nation. However, India
has a higher proportional share than China. 18.47% of the world’s
population lives in China, yet it only possesses a 4.2% share of
internet traffic.
This trend might start to change as more
Indians and Chinese people gain internet access, but it may take a long
time for non-US or Western sources to obtain the lion’s share of
internet traffic. The UK does well too, with 3.55% of internet traffic
coming from the British Isles despite it possessing just 0.87% of the
global population, which just goes to show how disproportionate such
things can be.
