Meta is Still Working on Its Controversial Dual Camera Smartwatch
The trend of wearable tech was kicked into high gear after the release
of the Apple Watch, and many other major companies have been trying to
hop on the bandwagon since then. One of the more controversial forays
into this field was that of Meta, whose planned dual camera smartwatch
was criticized for potentially causing a wide array of privacy issues.
It
has now been two years since the watch was announced, and Meta has not
made any further announcements. That might make the release of the
product seem less likely than might have been the case otherwise, but in
spite of the fact that this is the case a recent leak revealed that
Meta is continuing to perfect the watch and might decide to release it
in the near future.
With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that Meta might not be going with the initial design for the watch.
Rather, the tech juggernaut will be attempting to fine tune the design
because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could
potentially end up working out any issues that might make users wary of
buying it.
Sources have suggested that this watch could be
powered by a Qualcomm processor, and while it will be using a form of
Android the version it’ll have will be quite distinct from Wear OS. It
will feature a customized version of Android which makes sense since
Meta would want to distinguish its own product to give it its own unique
type of identity.
Meta has really been struggling to contend
with restrictions placed by Apple and Google that have inhibited its
attempts to harvest user data. The release of this watch could give Meta
its own tech that will collect data, and this data will not be
restricted by any other companies.
It will be interesting to see
what occurs if and when this watch gets released. Chances are that it
will determine the fate of the company by revealing whether or not it
can adapt and successfully diversify.
